2023 Chevrolet Colorado

The 2023 Colorado comes in five trims: WT, LT, Z71, Trail Boss, and ZR2. The new generation is only offered in a crew-cab configuration, but the bed now includes features that expand its capabilities. A measuring strip and two cup holders are molded into the tailgate's surface, and built-in pockets let you adjust the storage heights to three different levels. A power outlet and spray-in bedliner are available as is a lockable and watertight tailgate storage compartment. The truck also has an available sunroof for the first time.

A major overhaul of the Colorado involves the engine. The outgoing model had three different engines, including a fuel-efficient turbodiesel and stellar V-6, but the 2023 model only has one powerful engine. In fact, it's the same one found with the full-size Silverado 1500 sibling.

The 2.7-liter inline-four engine produces different amounts of horsepower depending on the trim. The standard powertrain on the lower two trims gets 237 horsepower and 259 pound-feet of torque, while the Trail Boss gets 301 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. The top-of-the-line ZR2 delivers 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. The engine is mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and the vehicle is available with either rear- or four-wheel drive.

Depending on the trim, the Colorado has several available drive modes to help you navigate through different types of terrain. Some of these modes include Normal, Off-Road, Tow/Haul, Baja, and Terrain. The latter two modes are best suited for driving through dunes or over rocks. Also, when it comes to towing capacity, the Colorado offers best-in-class numbers with 7,700 pounds.

In addition to a revamped exterior, the Colorado has a redefined interior. You'll notice a new center console and the shifter moves closer to the passenger side. Chevrolet also removed the extended cab layout, but that doesn't hamper the interior space. Taller riders have more room in the second row thanks to an extended wheelbase that's 3.1 inches longer than the outgoing model.

Standard infotainment features include a large 11.3-inch touch-screen display, which is the largest available display in its class. It also comes standard with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Available technology upgrades include wireless phone charging and several USB ports. You can also add a subscription service, which gives you navigation, music, and other Google-based functions.

Chevrolet added a handful of safety features to the 2023 Colorado, many of which are part of the standard Safety Assist package. Some of these features include lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, automatic high-beam headlights, front pedestrian detection, and forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking. Available add-on safety features include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, a surround-view parking camera system, and rear pedestrian detection.
