The Chevrolet Equinox, with its bold exterior look and abundance of standard features, is a standout in the compact SUV market. For the 2023 model year, the Equinox has a few minor updates. The turbo engine gains some extra horsepower, and it has three new exterior paint colors. It also has a new electronically assisted braking system that Chevy calls E-boost. Here's a closer look at some of the details for the 2023 Chevrolet Equinox.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The entry-level LS trim comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, keyless entry, and heated side exterior mirrors. Stepping up to the LT adds rear privacy glass and chrome- and body-colored exterior trim. Chevy offers the Midnight and Sport Editions for these models with 18-inch gloss black wheels, front and rear black badging, and body-colored mirror housings. Choose the RS trim for black-painted 19-inch wheels, roof rails, and a power liftgate, or step up to the Premier for 18-inch wheels and a hands-free power liftgate.
Engine (Power)
Every Equinox gets power from a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbo gas engine that puts out 175 horsepower and delivers 203 pound-feet of torque. This is a bump up in horsepower from the previous model year. The engine works with a six-speed automatic transmission and comes standard with front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is available for all of the trims.
Performance
The engine has plenty of power for propelling the Equinox around town, and it will easily get it up to highway speeds. The six-speed transmission seamlessly transitions through the gears when accelerating. The all-wheel-drive-equipped RS trim will accelerate to 60 mph in about 8 seconds, and it is easy to drive and handle with a responsive steering system and strong brakes. When equipped with a hitch, the Equinox can tow up to 1,500 pounds.
Interior
There's room for five people in Equinox. The LS has cloth upholstery, and you can opt for the available power-adjustable driver's seat. Just a step up to the LT makes the power-adjustable steering wheel standard. The RS comes with dual-zone automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and heated front seats. In the Premier trim, you'll get leather upholstery and a heated steering wheel. This trim also adds driver's seat memory settings.
Technology in the Equinox starts with a 7-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, two USB ports, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. An 8-inch touchscreen is available for the LT and above, and you can also get extra USB ports. The Premier also offers an upgraded stereo system and navigation.
Safety Features
Every 2023 Chevrolet Equinox has standard driver aids. The LS comes with forward collision warning with automatic braking, lane-keep assist, a rear-seat reminder, and automatic high-beam headlights. A blind-spot monitor with rear-cross traffic alert and rear parking sensors are optional for the LS and standard for the rest of the lineup. Adaptive cruise control is available or standard depending on the trim, and you can also get a 360-degree surround-view camera and an automated parking system that works in both perpendicular and parallel parking spots.
