Everyone in Alexandria wants their summer to be as full of fun as possible, and if you’re looking for something exciting to do during the year’s warmest months, attending one of the area’s many festivals is a great option. From new cultural experiences to mouthwatering food, these Alexandria festivals provide everything you need to have fun and make memories this summer.

2019 Irish Festival

Alexandria hosts a variety of annual summer festivals, including the popular Irish Festival, which celebrates and educates people about Irish heritage. This year’s festival is planned for Aug. 24 and will be held at the waterfront park, which means you’ll be able to learn more about Irish culture while enjoying one of the most scenic spots in Alexandria.

If you decide to attend the Irish Festival, you’ll find countless ways to have fun. You can start your day by taking in one of the traditional dance performances. When you get hungry, you can stop by one of the many food vendors to sample authentic Irish cuisine. Before the day is through, you should be sure to browse the craft vendors so that you can find a keepsake to take home that will remind you of your visit. Admission is free, so you can have big fun without worrying about the cost.

Firehouse Festival

If you want to have a great time this summer while supporting a good cause, attending the annual Firehouse Festival is a great option. Sponsored each year by the Friendship Veterans Fire Engine Association, the Firehouse Festival is a family-friendly event that is meant to promote fire-fighting history and safety.

The Firehouse Festival will take place on the first Saturday in August, and when you attend, you can browse a collection of antique firefighting equipment, listen to exciting live music, and browse the many craft booths. If you bring your kids along, they’ll receive a free fire helmet and will also be able to take a tour of one of the city’s fire trucks.

Around the World Cultural Food Festival

For residents of Alexandria that love trying new foods and learning about different cultures, the 2019 Around the World Cultural Food Festival is a can’t-miss event. Taking place on August 17 at Freedom Plaza, this festival allows you to immerse yourself in the culture of 40 different countries from around the world.

Starting at 11:30 a.m., there will be a variety of traditional dance performances that continue throughout the day. You’ll also be able to browse arts and crafts vendors, where all booths represent local businesses. While admission is free, you may want to purchase one of the VIP passes, which entitle you to two drink tickets of your choice as well as access to a special VIP line at all of the festival’s food vendors.

If you’re still making plans for your summer in Alexandria, leave room in your itinerary for one of these exciting festivals. Attend one or all of these events, and you’re sure to have the time of your life.
