Thanks to beautiful foliage and cooler temperatures, fall is a wonderful time of year in the Alexandria, Virginia, area. Northern Virginia plays host to many festivals celebrating the season. Let’s discuss some fun festivals that you won’t want to miss.

Fall for the Book

If you enjoy a good book, you won’t want to miss George Mason University’s Fall for the Book festival. Speakers include some of the nation’s most renowned poets, historians, children’s authors, and novelists. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear their favorite writers read from their works and participate in Q&A sessions. The three-day festival concludes with a literature-themed game show. All of the festival’s events are free and open to the public.

Alexandria Film Festival

The Alexandria Film Festival is the premier event for Northern Virginia movie buffs. The four-day festival brings some of the world’s best movies and documentaries to the city and gives attendees a chance to interact with some of their favorite filmmakers. The festival concludes with an awards ceremony honoring festival participants and their works. Attendees can purchase a festival pass or tickets for individual events.

Dr. Butler’s Fall Festival for Health

If you’re interested in healthily celebrating the season, you’ll want to check out Dr. Butler’s Fall Festival for Health. Attendees can receive free health screenings for diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and other common ailments. The entire family will enjoy healthy snacks, face painting, and arts and crafts. While admission is free, you’re encouraged to donate a new toy or child’s coat.
