Frying Pan Farm Park

If you’re interested in what farm life was like in the 1920s through 1950s, then plan a visit to Frying Pan Farm Park. Here families can learn and have fun together. Meet farm animals such as chickens, rabbits, sheep, and more, take a tour of the farmhouse and other buildings for a glimpse into farm life during the 1930s, and go for a ride on the 1920s carousel. Check out the antique farm equipment, which includes both horse-drawn and mechanical items. Other park activities include horseback riding, wagon rides, and camps for kids.

 

Riverbend Park

Riverbend Park is a unique location on the Potomac River where you’ll find a rare and interesting combination of geology, plant life, and beauty. Some of the activities you might enjoy there include birdwatching, kayaking, hiking, and fishing. Stop by the visitor’s center to see the exhibit on Native American life. Naturalists are always on hand during business hours, so feel free to ask them any questions you have about the park. Visit in spring to see an array of wildflowers or to attend the Bluebell Festival in celebration of the aptly named purple and blue flowers.

 

Ellanor C. Lawrence Park

Historic Ellanor C. Lawrence Park is located in the western part of Fairfax County. It spans 650 acres and is home to a variety of animal species. You can hike several trails in the park, two of which also allow cyclists. Both the Walney Road and Big Rocky Run Stream Valley Trails permit bicycles, while the rest of the trails are for hiking, jogging, and bird watching only. Ellanor C. Lawrence Park is unique in that it features multiple habitats, including ponds, streams, upland and bottomland forests, and meadows. Other park attractions include a playground and athletic fields.

 

Huntley Meadows Park

When you visit Huntley Meadows Park, you’ll enjoy fields full of wildflowers, beautiful forests, wetlands teaming with life, and a historic home that’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Several trails wind their way through the park, so you’re sure to find one that suits your style, whether you’re hiking, biking, or just walking your dog. If you want to hold your next event in the great outdoors, rent the shelter that can seat up to 50 people. Your guests will enjoy the scenery and the atmosphere.
