The First Hardtop Corvette Convertible? 5 Things to Know

The Corvette has kept the same iconic style for years without much change in design features. For the first time ever, you can find a big style change coming in 2020. Sleeker, stronger, and even more style can be found in the first hardtop Corvette Convertible. Here are five things to know before you shop. more How the Hardtop Works New design features allow the hardtop on the new Corvette Convertible to function seamlessly. The two-piece top will lift up and fold backward close to the rear engine. It stays stored beneath a tonneau cover in a weather-protected compartment. You can fold down the convertible top in just 16 seconds and can even do so while driving up to 30 miles per hour. Six different small, hydraulic motors are at work to handle this new Corvette top. Better than that is the fact that the top doesn't block any of your rear cargo space when retracted. The Styling Is Almost Futuristic When you look at the new Corvette convertible for the first time, you will notice some changes. In addition to the new top, you will see that the tonneau cover adds something like an aircraft feel to the car. The cover will come in either body color or Carbon Flash finish trim. The windows will be able to be operated independently of the top so you can customize your airflow. With the windows and top down the car looks extremely dramatic. There Is No Decrease in Performance The new top is estimated to add a little over 100 extra pounds to the overall weight of the Corvette. With this being said, there is not supposed to be any decrease in power or performance with this added feature. You can still expect the same 495 horsepower with the Z51 package. With no compromise in performance, why would you not choose the improved roof style? There Will Be a Slight Price Increase With the advanced technology and seriously stylish designs that the 2020 Corvette convertible will come with, you probably already know that the base price will be slightly different than with previous model years. The price change can be seen when the top comes into play along with the more sleek, streamlined appearance. The world's best sports car is only improving. More Intimidating Appearance With the first-ever Corvette hardtop there will be some significant design changes. You may be wondering how it is going to look when the top is up. If possible, it becomes even sportier looking with the updated top. The front end maintains the signature lights and sleeker hood design. There are two peaks extending from the headrests that flow seamlessly to the rear end of the car. The rear window can be raised when the top is down to improve wind flow in the car so you can ride without messing up that hair you have spent time perfecting. With the top up, you get a powerful, intimidating machine that will turn the heads of everyone you pass. Chevrolet is taking a bold step by making such a radical change to the iconic Corvette model. The exciting new style should impress both traditional Corvette lovers and people who want to be a part of something new. Car Insurance in Fairfax, VA - Jim McKay Chevrolet

Making Sure You Get the Right Insurance Coverage on Your Next Vehicle

You're legally required to have an insurance policy on any vehicle that you drive. However, the minimum requirement in your state may not offer enough coverage to truly protect you and your vehicle. Take a look at some of the aspects of an insurance policy that you should make sure you have on your car to avoid being financially responsible for damages after an accident. more Minimum Requirements Every state has its own minimum requirements for vehicle insurance coverage, so it's important to make sure you have least that much coverage within your policy. You can review the minimums, as well as lookup average rates based on zip codes, level of coverage, and age. Your state may also have unique laws that apply to auto insurance, so take a look at these requirements before you purchase a policy as well. Some of these laws include: Tort system, which means that someone is determined to be at fault in every accident. No-fault system, which eliminates finding fault in accidents. “No pay, no play” laws, which eliminate compensation for any damages that result from an accident for an uninsured driver. Liability Liability insurance covers you when you are liable for an accident or found to be at fault. States require all drivers to have liability coverage, but it may not be the best option to only have this type of coverage on your vehicle. If you get into an accident that you are liable for, your insurance policy will cover damages to the other involved party but will not pay for any damages to your vehicle. Liability coverage is split into bodily injury and property damage. Collision Collision coverage is similar to liability coverage, although it's more extensive. This type of insurance policy covers any collision, other than with an animal. It will pay for damage to both the other involved vehicle or vehicles and your vehicle after an accident. Collision insurance will kick in if you crash into another car or if you hit a tree, pothole, telephone pole, or another object. Although it's not necessarily required, it can offer an extra level of protection that you won't get if your policy only includes liability coverage. Comprehensive A comprehensive insurance policy also includes coverage for any situation other than an accident with another vehicle. Some examples include vandalism, theft, falling trees, weather damage, accidents involving animals, damage to the windshield or other glass, fire damage, and rocks or objects that fall off or are kicked up by other cars. A comprehensive policy will protect your vehicle in situations that are beyond your control. If you have a loan or lease on your vehicle, the lender may require you to have comprehensive coverage on the policy. Now that you understand the different types of vehicle insurance and why they're important, you can start shopping for a car that will be covered under your new policy. 4 Reasons to Get Pre-Approved Before Car Shopping

Budget drives each and every car search because the car purchase is just the first step on the journey of car ownership. Understanding what you can afford in terms of your budget is incredibly important because there's nothing worse than falling in love with a vehicle you can't afford. Here are four reasons to get pre-approved before you start shopping for a car. more Gives You Greater Control Over the Purchase Buying a car is a process and if you're not sure how much you're able to spend, you might get caught up in it. Getting pre-approval for your car loan helps you keep your eyes on buying a car you can afford on terms you can live with. Part of the car buying process is also spent waiting for your dealer to obtain financing options. Being pre-approved cuts down on this part. You Can Budget Car ownership is a journey involving many steps. But it's common for people to forget about this when car shopping. Getting pre-approved for a car loan allows you to budget for every aspect of owning your car. This first part involves looking at what you can borrow and finding a monthly payment that's comfortable for you. Next, make sure you factor in the other costs of car ownership (insurance, gas, maintenance, and repairs) and adjust your affordability as necessary. Understanding what a vehicle costs you as a whole may prevent you from purchasing a car that you truly can't afford once other costs are accounted for. Know What You Can Afford Once you know how much your budget can handle in terms of cost, you can find the car that you want. If you aren't pre-approved you might not get a vehicle that suits your needs because you're worried about the payment. With pre-approval in hand, you can look at cars within the range of payment you're comfortable with and make sure you get what you want from your car in terms of features. You Have Negotiating Power Negotiating the price of a car is another key aspect of car buying. With a pre-approval in hand, you will feel less pressure to take the vehicle deals presented to you simply because you need the car. Instead, you can take the time to figure out which deal is better for you overall because you already know what you can afford. This is true especially if you have more than one lender's pre-approval. You may be able to get a lower interest rate or a better overall loan from your dealer if you know what you can spend going in. Buying a car is a major purchase that you shouldn't leave to chance. Start looking at car loans two to six weeks before going to the dealership in order to minimize the impact to your credit score. Have copies of your necessary paperwork on hand for the dealership so that they can give you all of your financing options too. If you have questions about car financing, call the knowledgeable staff at Jim McKay Chevrolet to help you take the next step towards car ownership. Image via Pixabay

The 2019 Chevy Camaro is built for speed. This model year brings with it a refresh for the sixth generation. For 2019, the Camaro has embraced being a sports car instead of just a muscle or pony car. If you have a need for speed, keep reading to find out why you need to check out the Camaro today. more Exterior Styling For its 2019 refresh, the Camaro received a different front and back end variation for the SS, LS, LT, and RS trims while the ZL1 remains unchanged. A larger grille is prominent on the SS because of a large bar on the black grille that makes it look like one complete unit with the lower intake valves. In contrast, the LT and LS trims offer a much slimmer grille that makes the two components separate. Other exterior features include the LED signature lighting on the SS trim, LED headlights for the RT trim and a lightbar for the RS package. Performance The 2019 Chevy Camaro has varying levels of performance for each trim. The LS and LT trim come with a 2.0-liter turbo-4 engine standard. If you opt for the LT trim you can also choose a 3.6-liter V-6 engine that produces 335 horsepower. Step up to the SS trim to get a 6.2-liter V-8 engine that produces 455 horsepower. The ZL1 trim offers the ultimate in performance with a 650 horsepower 6.2-liter V-8 engine. Regardless of which trim and engine you choose, the Camaro is very responsive and goes from 0 to 60 mph starting in just 5.4 seconds with the turbo-4 engine. The top-of-the-line 6.2-liter V-8 cuts this down to just 3.5 seconds. Camaro operates on the Alpha Platform which allows for excellent drive control thanks to the electric-assist power steering system and rear suspension. Optional Magnetic Ride Control dampers improve the ride and handling even more, especially with the SS trim's 20-inch wheels. Interior Features The Camaro comes in coupe and convertible styles. No matter which one you choose, the interior is fairly roomy up front, though the back is small. The standard upholstery for the vehicle is cloth. But heated and cooled Recaro seats are options to add for extra luxury. There's also good leg room in the front. Since the back and trunk space is smaller, consider using the back seat for things like bags or packages if needed. For those interested in the convertible, you'll get a multi-layer power soft top with remote operation capability. Safety Eight airbags and a rearview camera come as standard options on the Camaro. Rear-cross traffic alert, blind spot monitors, rear parking assist, and forward collision warning are all standard on the SS and ZL1 trims. The LT trim has them as options. The 13.5-gallon gas tank will go the distance with this trim's 31 mpg in the city and an eye-popping 48 mpg at highway speeds. Interior Comforts Once you step inside the car, comfort and technology surround you. Starting with the Diesel trim level, enjoy standard heated seats up front. This is an available upgrade option for the LT trim. A heated steering wheel is also standard in the premier trim. Cloth seats are standard in all the trims. However, you have the option of changing them to a leatherette material with the Diesel and Premier trim levels. When it comes to technology, the Cruze doesn't disappoint. Stay in the comfort of your home and start your car with the remote start. If you plan to use this feature, set the temperature in the car before you get out the night before. This way, you'll be comfortable as soon as you step inside. The remote start is standard equipment for the LT, Diesel, and Premier trims, and you have the option of adding it to the LS. Stay connected while you're on the road with the car's 4G LTE Wi-Fi. Using this system enables you to connect tablets and laptops to the internet along with your smartphone. The Cruze is also compatible with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, enabling you to control the entertainment through your phone. You can also connect your phone with Bluetooth and stream your favorite playlist on the road. Safety Chevy understands the importance of safety for all drivers. The Cruze has a suite of teen driver technology in all trim levels to encourage good driving habits from the beginning. This suite enables parents to set a speed limiter when their teen is behind the wheel. The car can also set an audio limit so teens can enjoy their music but stay aware of their surroundings. The teen driver system also creates custom speed alerts to show your driver when he or she is over the speed limit.
