Frying Pan Farm Park The Frying Pan, located at 2739 West Ox Road, brings farm life from the 1920s to the 1950s into the modern-day world. Kidwell Farm sits within the grounds and allows visitors to travel on a wagon to meet peacocks, horses, sheep, cows, and pigs. You'll definitely have a lovely time at all three places (and with little or no cost, too.) Engine Problem Tips in Fairfax, VA - Jim McKay Chevrolet

3 Engine Problems You Should Always Get Fixed at Our Chevrolet Dealer

The engine in your Chevrolet is the most complex system in your car. It uses the combustion process to create energy, which is then transmitted to your wheels via the transmission. An engine contains a huge variety of systems, and all of them must work together to allow the engine to function. These are some of the engine problems our friendly Chevro l et dealer in Fairfax, VA can fix for you. more Dirty Intake Manifold Combustion requires air, fuel, and a spark. Fuel enters the intake manifold through the fuel injectors, and air enters the manifold after it passes through the air filter. Once inside the manifold, the fuel and air mix in a precise ratio before they enter the cylinders. Once inside the cylinders, the fuel-air mixture is compressed and ignited by the spark plugs to create combustion. Fuel contains carbon, and carbon deposits can build up in the intake manifold over time. These deposits alter the fuel-air ratio by reducing the amount of air in the mixture. A low level of air in the manifold will create a fuel-rich engine. A fuel-rich engine uses more fuel and can lead to serious and even permanent engine damage. We can solve this problem by cleaning the manifold to remove the carbon. Damaged Oil Pump Oil is vital for your engine, as it performs a variety of essential functions. Many components in your engine can produce friction as they work, and oil protects them from damage. The oil flowing through your engine protects these components within a friction barrier and prevents damage. The constant oil flow helps to reduce the engine temperature and reduces rust and dirt buildup. The oil pump is responsible for moving oil through the engine at high speed. Like any pump, the oil pump can eventually fail. A damaged oil pump prevents oil movement, your engine temperature will rise, and components can suffer friction damage. A problem with the oil pump will usually be highlighted by the oil can icon on your dash lighting up. We can fix this problem by removing and replacing your oil pump. Engine Overheating An engine operates most effectively at a temperature between 185 F and  220 F. The high temperature is caused by a combination of heat produced by combustion and the constant movement of hundreds of different engine parts. Your new or pre-owned Chevrolet has a very efficient cooling system to control the engine temperature and prevent it from overheating. If you notice that your engine temperature is rising rapidly, you could have a cooling system problem. If this happens, it's important to call us ASAP so we can investigate. An overheating engine can lead to permanent engine damage. We'll find the cause of the problem and repair it. If you have a problem with your engine, schedule a Chevrolet service appointment right away at Jim McKay Chevrolet.

Transmission Repair in Fairfax, VA - Jim McKay Chevrolet

Signs You Need a Transmission Repair at Our Chevrolet Service Center

A transmission repair sounds scary to many drivers, as they immediately imagine forking out thousands of dollars and having their car off the road for weeks. Fortunately, this situation is very rarely the case. Most transmission problems are simple and easy for our Chevrolet dealer to repair if you catch them early. more Humming, Buzzing, and Whining Your transmission is designed to operate smoothly, efficiently, and quietly as it shifts gears according to the demands of the transmission computer. If you start to hear any sound coming from the transmission, this is a sign that something is going wrong. The first sound you'll usually hear is a very slight buzzing noise that might not be noticeable at first. If the noise isn't investigated, the buzzing will become louder and could graduate to annoying humming or high-pitched whining sounds. If you hear any sounds, we advise calling our service department ASAP so we can investigate. Once we've identified the source of the noise, we'll repair or replace the affected component. Transmission Leak It's never a good start to the day to see a pool of liquid underneath your car, particularly if the liquid is red and sweet-smelling. Red liquid leaking means you have a transmission fluid leak. This fluid is essential for your transmission, as it provides numerous transmission components with a friction-resistant coating. It also provides the hydraulic power essential for the transmission to shift gears. Driving a car with a transmission leak is dangerous, as it can lead to internal damage, and the transmission could seize up due to heat and lack of lubrication. Our technician's first step is to identify the source of the leak and then repair it. The most common source of a leak is a worn transmission pan gasket. If the transmission hasn't been regularly serviced, this gasket could fail and start a leak. Shifting Problems Gears should shift easily and then remain in their position until the transmission computer moves them again. A shifting problem occurs when there's a delay between the transmission shifting gear and the new gear engaging. This delay could only be a second or two long, but it's a sign something is wrong. This type of problem is usually due to low transmission fluid. A low fluid level reduces the hydraulic pressure available to allow gears to move easily. We'll examine the gears and transmission and fix the problem. If your transmission doesn't feel or sound right, reserve a spot at our service department right away at Jim McKay Chevrolet.

Alternator Repair in Fairfax, VA - Jim McKay Chevrolet

Signs You Need an Alternator Repair at Our Chevrolet Dealership

Your Chevrolet's systems and components require a large amount of electricity to function. The alternator in your engine is responsible for producing this electrical power. On average, your alternator will last eight years before wear and age begin to show. When this happens, our local Chevrolet dealership can perform an alternator repair. These are some signs it could be time to bring your new or used vehicle to our Chevrolet Service Center. more Starting Problems If you try and start your car and hear only the plaintive sound of your engine trying to crank, your battery is low on power. This problem could be due to the age of the battery. A battery will usually only last for three to five years before it needs replacement. The starting problem could also be due to a worn alternator. One of the functions of the alternator is to maintain your battery's strength. As the alternator ages, its power generation weakens. An aging alternator can't provide enough power for all your car's systems, including the battery. Your battery will recharge at a lower and slower rate. This means each time you start your engine, your battery will become steadily weaker. We'll test the battery and the alternator to find the source of the problem and replace it. Slow Accessories If you experience random electrical problems, like windows that refuse to open or a radio that switches on and off, your car isn't haunted. These are warning signs that your alternator is failing. As we've seen, an aging alternator produces less power. This is a gradual, downhill process as an alternator always produces more power than your car requires. When the alternator can't produce power for all your car's systems, your computer will assign the available power. The computer will shift power to components as needed. This can mean stopping one component, like the radio, and shifting its power to another component, like the headlights. These problems will become steadily worse as time passes. Once we replace your alternator, these problems will disappear. Dim and Bright Lights Your headlights have a constant luminescence. Headlights that start to go dim could be a sign that the bulbs are failing. If headlights then blaze brighter than they should, the problem is a worn alternator. The lack of power from a dying alternator shows in all the electrical systems. The headlights are a priority system, so your car's computer will always assign them enough power to switch on. When the lights become brighter than they should, this is a sign that the computer is assigning more power to compensate for the previous low supply. We'll test your alternator to confirm the diagnosis and replace it if it's failing. If you have a problem with your alternator, book a service visit right away at Jim McKay Chevrolet in Fairfax, VA.
